Millennium Galleries is Sheffield’s most prestigious venue for international touring exhibitions but it also contains a permanent collection of metalwork, craft and design and, in the Ruskin Gallery, a unique exhibition of art and books collected by writer and critic John Ruskin.

Other venues include the Graves Art Gallery for an outstanding collection of modern art including works by Picasso, Cezanne and Spencer; Site Gallery for contemporary photography, film, video and new media; the Turner Museum of Glass for contemporary European and American studio glass, and the Yorkshire Artspace complex for a rolling programme of arts events.

Three theatres – the Crucible Theatre, Crucible Studio and Lyceum – offer diverse programmes of drama, ballet and opera, while the Lantern, Library, Merlin, Montgomery and University Drama Studio present smaller scale productions.

Mainstream films are shown at the Odean, UGC and Warner Village multi-screen complexes, while the four-screen Showroom is an independent art-house cinema.
